I love hummus. There are lots of great ready made varieties at the grocery store. But, it’s so easy to make..and you can customize it to your liking. So…why not? This is quick and great to take to a party or tailgate. That’s why I added to “Gimme 5.” These little recipes can be made either with 5 or fewer ingredients, or in 5 minutes…sometimes both!
Start with a can of chickpeas and some tahini or sesame paste. You can either get a plain container of tahini or the new little already measured and seasoned pouches. They come in classic or several flavors.
Even though it already contains some lemon, garlic and seasonings…I added a bit more fresh lemon, minced garlic and some sauce from the chipotle in adobo.
I like it spicy, so I dolloped the peppers from the hoagie spread on top. Warning…it packs a punch! Use sparingly or omit!
The drained chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice all go in a food processor until smooth. Stir in the adobo sauce at the end and adjust seasonings.
For the pita toasts…Grab some pita bread and cut into triangles. Place on a baking sheet, drizzle a little olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and some smoked paprika.
Bake at 350 for about 8 minutes. Then you’re ready for dipping!
